What is GATE ?
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India entrance Examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore & 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras & Roorkee). It is conducted every year in the month of January/February. Accoding to the pattern IIT Delhi is the organizing institutes for GATE 2020 Exam.
The GATE Score/Rank is mandatory for admission into and/or financial assistance to Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture in IISc, IITs and other prestigious Institutes / Universities in India. The GATE Score is also used by many PSUs for the recruitment of candidates into prestigious jobs with attractive salary packages. Some of the PSUs which use GATE score for providing jobs include BARC, BHEL, IOCL, HPCL, NTPC, Power Grid, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization), NHPC etc.
GATE is an exam that mainly tests the comprehensive understanding of the candidate in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Science. The GATE score reflects the relative performance level of the candidate in a particular subject. GATE score is valid for THREE years. The GATE examination centres are spread in different cities across India, as well as, in six cities outside India. The examination would be purely a Computer Based Test (CBT).
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has opened registration for the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) 2020 exam.

SYLLABUS :
The syllabus for the exam in Engineering streams include General aptitude (Numerical & Verbal) for 15 marks, Engineering Mathematics for 10 – 13 marks and the rest of 72 – 75 marks in technical subjects studied at B.Tech level.
PATTERN OF QUESTION PAPER :
- All the papers of GATE are conducted by an ONLINE Computer Based Test (CBT).
- The GATE paper consists of questions of both Multiple Choice (MCQ’s) type and Numerical Answer type.
- MCQ’s have 33% negative marking for wrongly marked answers. No negative marking is done for the numerical answer type questions.

Educational Eligibility :
Completed or final year students of BE /B. Tech or its equivalent can apply for GATE. MSc/MA/MCA can also apply for the same. Check official website for more details.
AGE LIMIT :
There is no upper age Limit for the GATE exam.
